Last year, I went to Catalunya to visit my penfriend Josep. He lives in a small town called Terrassa. I stayed with Josep and his family for a week. The most exciting day was when we visited Barcelona.
We travelled by bus to the city centre, and we visited a lot of great places. First we went to Montjuïc. It was a sunny day, so we could see the mountains, the beach and the city. We had lunch in a nice restaurant, and ate typical Catalan food.
My favourite place in Barcelona was Park Güell. It’s a beautiful park with ceramic mosaics and strange houses. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. I’m very interested in architecture, so I asked Josep about Gaudí. He was born in 1852, and he grew up in Barcelona. He designed a lot of interesting houses in the city, like the Casa Milà. Gaudí also designed the Sagrada Familia cathedral, but he couldn’t finish it. He died in 1926.
When I came home, I surfed the Internet and found some more information about Gaudí. I thought that his buildings were beautiful because they’re very different from English buildings.
