The date

Los números ordinales se usan en inglés para expresar fechas y establecer el orden de las cosas.
Ejemplos:
My birthday is on the fourteenth of July= Mi cumpleaños es el catorce de julio.
Maths is the second lesson in the morning= Matemáticas es la segunda clase de la mañana.

  • January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

¡Ojo! Los meses se escriben con mayúscula.

Aquí tienes los ordinales hasta el 31

  • first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, twenty-first, twenty-second, twenty-third, twenty-fourth, twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth, twenty-seventh, twenty-eighth, twenty-ninth, thirtieth, thirty-first

Ahora vamos a poner un ejemplo:

Cervantes was born on 29th September 1547 (Se lee: Cervantes was born on the twenty-ninth of September fifteen forty-seven)

¿Cómo se leen los años?

1959= nineteen fifty-nine

1900= nineteen hundred

2008= two thousand and eight

1903= nineteen oh three

También conviene que sepas estas abreviaturas:

AD: Significa "Anno Domini"(Año de Nuestro Señor, refiriéndose a Jesucristo)
BC: Significa "Before Christ" (antes de Cristo)

Por ejemplo si vemos escrito esta fecha: 400 BC quiere decir que es el año 400 antes de Cristo.

Conviene también que sepas lo que significan estas preguntas:

What day is it today? It's Friday. (¿Qué día es hoy?)

What date is it today?/ What's the date today? (¿Qué fecha es hoy?)It's the sixteenth of March

Reading: My visit to Bristol

Hi! My name is Paulo. I live in Turin, Italy but at the moment I’m visiting my cousins in Bristol. My two sisters, Eliana and Daniela, are also here. The weather here is OK. It’s warm and cloudy but it isn’t raining.

Eliana usually cooks dinner at home but today Daniela is cooking dinner with my aunt. Eliana is watching TV. She doesn’t understand much English but she’s learning. I’m listening to the radio and using the computer. I usually listen to English radio at home. It’s really good!

Read the text. Then answer the questions with LONG ANSWER:

1.- Where is Paulo from?

2.- Where is he now?

3.- What is he doing there?

4.- How many brothers or sisters has he got?

5.- Is it raining?
